One of the wonderful things about moving home to Los Angeles and joining the team at the University of Southern California is my family’s connection to the University that dates back over 100 years. My mother is a USC graduate (undergraduate and graduate school), and she has been an active supporter of USC as an alumna. Town & Gown of USC in an amazing organization that supports USC through student scholarships, campus enhancements, and cultural programs. It was an honor and a privilege to join them for a recent program, along with Valter Longo, PhD of the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology. We spoke about health and wellness, with my focus on sleep and his focus on diet.

The entire March 2, 2021, program is presented on the Town & Gown website. The full recording highlights the amazing work that they do, and I encourage you to watch the entire program to learn more about the group. If you are looking specifically for information about health, wellness, and sleep, my presentation starts at 14:10 of the recording. In my talk, I discuss:

  • the increase in sleep disturbances that has occurred over the past year, related to the COVID-19 pandemic and other national and world events
  • insomnia, including treatments ranging from sleep hygiene to use and non-use of over-the-counter medications
  • snoring and obstructive sleep apnea and treatment options
